Instructor guide

Sign in, build a set of questions, then run a live screen your students answer from their phones.

Go to sign in with the email and password your administrator set up for you — there is no public sign-up. Students never sign in; only instructors do.

Create a class

From your dashboard, give the class a title and create it. livepoll mints a 4-digit code that students use to join — it stays valid until you end the class.

Add questions

Open a class and add as many questions as you like. Each one is either:

  • Open-ended — students type free text.
  • Multiple choice — you add the options, and pick whether students may choose one answer (radio buttons) or multiple answers (checkboxes).

Reorder questions with the up/down arrows, and edit or delete any of them. Students see them one at a time, in this order.

Run the live screen

Press Present to open the projection screen. It shows the join code and the current question. Use Start first question, then Next / Previous to move through them, or Close questionto return to the lobby. Every student's device follows you the moment you advance — only one question is ever live at a time.

See the results

Answers stream in live. Switch views with the tabs: an answers feed or a word cloud for open questions, and a bar or pie chart for multiple choice. To moderate, delete an answer to take it off the screen.

Use Download CSV on a class (from the dashboard or the class page) to save all of its questions and answers as a spreadsheet.

End or reopen

End class stops students joining or answering and releases the code. Later, Reopen brings the class back with a fresh code, keeping all its questions.

Admins

An admin account sees everyinstructor's classes on the dashboard, not just its own, and can open, edit, present, export or delete any of them.

Admins also get an Admin tools link in the dashboard header, leading to a danger zone that can permanently delete all data — every class, question and answer across all instructors. It asks you to type DELETE to confirm, cannot be undone, and leaves instructor accounts untouched. Regular instructors never see this page.
